During the Milan Design Week the collection will be at display at Brazil S/A [Palazzo Giureconsulti: Via dei Mercanti, 2 (Duomo)].

Additionally, Guto would be happy to show you around on April 20th (Friday) at 11:30 AM, when he will lecture on “Design in the Digital Age – Poetry and “Brazilianness”” [Design na Era Digital: Poesia e Brasilidade], a brief view on the work of new Brazilian designers, as well as his outlook on the effect of digital technologies on the contemporary design.

Guto Requena analyses new lifestyles in order to understand the new trends in design and architecture, focusing on the informatization of daily life, interaction and digital culture. Different design and architecture projects will be displayed during the workshop – including two works by Guto Requena – in order to question the concept of “Brazilianness” and the contrast between the image projected by Brazilians and our true identity.

The “Once Upon a Time” collection of glass vases is composed of four pieces in different sizes, created from the recording of Guto Requena’s grandmother retelling the fables from his childhood. These stories were captured on a mobile phone in 2011 and used as the basis for the computer models of the vases. The forms generated by the interpretation of the audio files are the soul of these works, which express through their curves the narrative drama of the fables. The vases were manufactured by glass blowing artisans using recycled material.

The collection reflects the interests of the Estudio Guto Requena in the design process, in designs inspired by emotional memory, in the rich Brazilian culture and history, and an appreciation for the artisanal. The objects represent a form of investigation of the creative process in design using the possibilities offered by new digital technologies and concepts arising from Cyberculture.
